Welcome To The Spot....

Many of my homies, especially my smokin` PoT`naZ call me the "Chip Connoisseur"... I guess it`s `cuz I`m always on the look~out for that next iLL FLaVa. I just like to enjoy a good bag of Potato Chips, what can I say?? First off I need to BiG uP the originator of the "Saratoga Chips" as they were originally titled, Mr. George Crum! Without him I probably wouldn`t be enjoying these snack foods now. Sure he wasn`t the one to come up with the idea to season them with different flavors, but he was the creator -- Chip God if you will...LoL...if it wasn`t for his anger from a customer that complained about his fried potatoes being too soggy & thick, he wouldn`t have decided to slice the potatoes so thin that they couldn`t be eaten with a fork -- making them one of the most Universally known hand~eaten snacks...

Once the 20th Century kicked off Potato Chips were no longer a restaurant affair restricted to the Rich & Snobby, even the regular folks could enjoy them in their homes. In 1910 the Mike-sell's Potato Chip Company was founded, based out of Dayton, Ohio -- they claim to be the 'Oldest Potato Chip Company in the United States'. Before all the brand names the market Potato Chips were usually scooped out of storefront glass bins or sold in tins, but what most people found out was that the Chips at the bottom often ended up stale or damp. That`s when Laura Scudder stepped in. Maybe she didn`t like the crumbled up damp & stale Chips or maybe she saw dollar $ign$. Or just maybe she liked a good ol` Potato Chip, either way she was the one to come up with the earliest Potato Chip bags. They consisted of Wax Paper with it`s ends ironed together to keep it closed & leave the Potato Chips fresh & crisp...

The flavor came from an idea that was originally sparked off by a Mr. Frank Smith of Smiths Potato Crisps Company Ltd. fame around 1920. In grease~proof paper bags he packaged his Crisps with a twist of salt for sale around London. However later on the owner of an Irish Crisp Company called Tayto, Mr. Joe "Spud" Murphy came up with the technology to add the seasoning during the Potato Chip`s manufacturing, around the 1950's. It took some time, but he eventually created the World`s first seasoned Chips, two flavors; "Salt & Vinegar" and "Cheese & Onion"...

So that`s a lil` pat on the back to those that helped create one of the snacks that I really enjoy! However I wouldn`t feel right if I didn`t give Orka BiG ReSPeCT to the thing that makes everything possible, the most Tubular of the Tubers the Potatoe...
